Curriculum - American Sign Language Curriculum

We are so tremendously grateful for the time, energy, effort, and love
that have obviously been invested in creating your curriculum.
It is truly an answer to our prayers, and will be used
to positively impact the lives of deaf children and their families.
The content of the (Sign Language) books is so incredible. -- Ron Smith

CURRICULUM BOOK LEVELS:

The Beginner Level (Infant Level)* introduces the pictures and sign for target vocabulary. It includes the Spanish and English word for the picture. The goal is for the child to identify the sign for the vocabulary included. The illustrations are full page color to catch and hold the attention of an infant/toddler. Fun activities are included to be utilized as the child’s fine motor skills improve.

The Intermediate Level (Pre-School Level)* introduces the sign, and word with the goal of learning to recognize the written word and sign through signing, coloring, cutting and pasting,.

The Advanced Level (Kindergarten Level)* introduces the word used in simple sentences. It encourages handwriting practice of the word, simple sentences and spelling practice.

Spanish and English speakers can easily use our curriculum to learn sign language!  Our curriculum is ideal for classroom use too. Teachers can use them for homework assignments, posters, learning centers, and bulletin boards.  Educators can also send “Family Packets” home for parents to learn signs along with their children as they paste pictures, practice writing, and learn to fingerspell.

*-The former Grade Level indicators of Infant, Pre-school and Kindergarten have been changed to Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced, respectively, because this facilitates their use in higher grade level classrooms.

Who? Series - Family

FAMILY

If you are a teacher of Deaf children, you have most likely made your own Family Books to introduce your students to the names of their family members by collecting pictures of family members and pasting them in books with the names of the individual members of their families.  It is a lot of work making and producing those books for each student each year.  Now, you have it already done for you with these reproducible books.

If you are a parent, this is one of the first essential steps in your child’s education – who are the people in their life?  They need to have a way of recognizing receptively and expressive all their extended family members, friends, teachers, etc.  These materials will help you start that process.  Your job?  Copy the pages in the curriculum, take digital, poloroid or other pictures of each person.  Cut out sign names from the Sign Name Packet for each person.  Glue picture and sign name in the book and write the name in the spaces provided.  Then sit down with your child and go through each page signing each person’s sign name as often and long as your child will sit still with you.

Who? Series - School

SCHOOL

It is the beginning of school and one of the first tasks for your new class or student is learning the names of the personnel and staff at school that will be interacting with them.  Assign the work to your aid?  Now you don’t have too!  It is all done for you!  Just purchase the level of School Curriculum that fits your group (for some that will mean all three – the Infant, Pre-School and Kindergarten levels!)   Not to worry.  They are all reproducible!  You will invest one time and never have to do it again!  Just honor the copyright.   The copyright specifies that it can be reproduced only by the teacher who purchased it for her classroom – now and forever.
